Welcome to Medic on the Mic: A Journey of Experience and Exploration
Hello everyone, and welcome to my new blog series, Medic on the Mic, which accompanies my podcast of the same name. I’m your host, Brandon Heggie, and before I delve into the exciting content I have planned, I want to share my journey and the purpose behind this endeavor.
Introduction: The Catalyst Behind the Mic
For many years, I dreamed of creating a podcast. Inspired by a challenge from a friend named Cody during a teaching trip to Nebraska, I finally shed my excuses and launched Medic on the Mic. This is a platform where I can share my experiences as a Lieutenant Firefighter Paramedic, EMS educator, and speaker, and delve into a multitude of topics that impact everyday life.
Why This Podcast?
This is more than just a passion project. It’s a way to connect, educate, and perhaps most importantly, help others grow. We’ll explore the myriad lessons I have learned through my nearly 20 years of service in fire departments and as a paramedic. My goal is to provide not only clinical insights but also delve into significant human elements such as imposter syndrome, mental health, burnout, and family dynamics.
A Little About Me: Brandon Heggie
I grew up in Shelton, Washington, and have been deeply involved in my community for nearly two decades. My career path was unexpected – a blood condition thwarted my plans to join the Army Special Forces, leading me instead to volunteer as a firefighter and eventually discover my passion for medicine. In these roles, I’ve collected lessons from real, life-altering experiences. From responding to local emergencies to enduring personal trials, these experiences shape my perspective and fuel my desire to facilitate meaningful conversations through this podcast.
Exploring the Issues That Matter
Through Medic on the Mic, I aim to address topics that extend beyond firefighting and EMS. We’ll touch upon universal themes like decision-making, leadership, communication, and self-growth. We’ll embrace influences like yoga and meditation to strengthen both mind and body, and focus on developing tools that can help each of us tackle life with a more proactive mindset.
The Power of Shared Experience
In sharing my experiences and having guest speakers join me on this journey, I hope to reach a broad audience. I want to inspire you, my readers and listeners, to engage in these discussions with your own networks, and in doing so, spread the impact of personal growth.
Wrapping It Up: The Beginning of a New Chapter
This blog and the accompanying podcast are the beginning of what I hope will be a long-term journey. Next up, I look forward to tackling the topic of imposter syndrome, a personal struggle that continues to challenge me, but one I’m learning to overcome. It’s not just about my growth, but about offering you the tools I’ve discovered on my journey. Thanks for joining me here on this platform. Please subscribe to my podcast, “Medic on the Mic,” and stay tuned for more insights and stories. Visit my website, brandonheggie.com, for additional resources and updates.
